Today has been a bit up-and-down. I got up early this morning so I could go out and see the Olympic Torch leaving Aberystwyth (I was at work yesterday so I didn't get to see it arrive). But when we got there it seems we had just missed it go past. So we tried to catch up with it and failed. So basically I missed the ony chance I'll get to see anything related to the Olympics in real life this year.

After that I needed to go up to work (yes, on my day off, again), for a meeting with my NVQ assessor. I was quite pleased that my bus was on time for once, though, as Drew pointed out later, it's more likely that it was the previous bus running really late. My assessor was really pleased with the work I'd done this month, which was great, but then she gave me even more work to do in the next two weeks.

Then I went home and sat out in the sunshine to eat lunch and read for a bit before Drew came home. Then we went food shopping, which is never fun, but at least we didn't spend too much this week.

When we got home we had a barbeque out in the garden, which was really good even though we hadn't long had lunch so we weren't really that hungry. We could have waited til later, but we only get the sun in our garden for a limited amount of time, so we would have had to have had it in the shade, which really isn't the same.

Then later I realised that I'd lost my debit card. I guess I must have left it in the machine when I topped up my phone earlier, but I can't remember. Anyway, I've had it cancelled now.

Now I'm just wasting time while I wait fo my mum to ring.

Oh yes, a funny thing happened the other day: Drew and I were sitting in the living room with the door open to let in some fresh air and a blackbird walked in! It panicked when it saw us and flew up at Drew, which startled him so he shouted out, then it pooed on his head! I was laughing for ages, though he wasn't amused.

Woo, we've got the internet in our new house now! I'll be able to check my e-mails!

Also, we just bought a fridge-freezer :-S The one in the house here just isn't big enough for the amount of food we usually have in, so we've got another one.

Woo Nicky's gone! The cat hasn't left, but she should be gone before the end of the week. So yay, Drew and I are happy now.

Still very busy though. Why is there so much stuff to do!

Starting to get a bit excited now, only three days to go! I'm supposed to be packing now, but I can't really coz most of the clothes I want to take are on the washing line drying. I finally gave in and bought more pegs! So now I don't have to chase my underwear round the garden any more.

I need to do most of the things that need to be done before I go today, because I'm working all weekend. Darn twelve hour shifts!

I did the most boring training ever on Wednesday. It was on oral hygiene, which I thought would be quite interesting and definitely useful. But actually it was just a woman talking at us for two hours, mostly trying to justify why she's such a bitch. I didn't learn anything new or useful at all.

I'm going to Svalbard next week. It hasn't really sunk in yet, but I'm sure it will at some point during the 20 hours I'll be spending travelling.

It's been so long since I've updated that I just don't know what to say. I'm sure some pretty interesting things must have happened in the last month, but I can't think of any of them right now. Let me think... We had our kitchen tap fixed, so now we don't have to carry hot water through from the bathroom. Four of the residents at work moved to different care homes. I did a course on "Food and Nutrition Skills", and tried eating really healthily for a week. Nicky's been ill. Alex has broken his toe. I've got contact dermatitis (like eczema) on my hands, which may be caused by an allergic reaction to either the soap or the gloves at work. Guides is driving me crazy, I'm beginning to think I should be a Ranger Leader instead. Err...

If anyone's in Wycombe and free on the 19th or 29th this month and wants to do something let me know.

I forgot to mention, I'm on holiday now :-) I have been since last Friday. I came to Wycombe on the Friday, then went to Carlisle on Monday, came back to Wycombe on Thursday and I was supposed to go back to Aber tomorrow. But, I've just read an e-mail from Arriva Trains Wales saying they're going on strike tomorrow and Monday. So probably won't be able to get back tomorrow. Which is kind of a good thing because I get a longer holiday. But also a bad thing because I'm supposed to go back to work on Monday. But I'll just have to ring in tomorrow and say I won't be able to make it. I will look for buses first though, just in case.

I have just sat up for the last three hours absolutely enthralled by this book Nicky's lent me. It's called "Nature's Great Events" and it accompanies a TV programme which I'd now like to watch. The reason I find it so interesting is because one section, called "The Great Melt" is all about Svalbard! Not only that, it's about filming and photographing animals on Svalbard! How much more "me" could it get? The story about a student getting eaten by a polar bear was pretty terrifying though...

So far working nights is pretty blah. I don't mind being nocturnal (though it is confusing at times), but the work is fairly dull because all I seem to spend my time doing is answering buzzers because someone's duvet or blanket or foot has set off the motion sensors. It's also pretty lonely because there's only one person working each of two of the wings (two people on the third wing), so you can go hours at a time without seeing or talking to anyone who doesn't have dementia.

I did work Wednesday night last week in the end, but I went in after Guides, at 10 o'clock. I probably shouldn't have done, because it meant I was practically on the verge of a nervous breakdown by 12 o'clock, and I still had eight more hours of work to go! This week they did the same again (put me on the rota for Wednesday night), but I refused to go in. I'm yet to find out when I do need to do my last shift this week, but I'm betting it's probably going to be tonight.

Getting pretty sick of spending most of my time on my own now.

Happy Fake Christmas day! Drew and I are having our Christmas day today because he's supposed to be going home tomorrow. So far, it's been really awesome. We've had a lie in, breakfast in bed, Christmas lights and heating on all day, opened presents, eaten roast dinner and chocolates, drunk port and fake Bailey's, played The Lord of the Rings, watched Back to the Future and Father Christmas, listened to Christmas music, and I decorated the Christmas cake.

The presents I got today were also really good: DVDs about Egypt from Drew, two cook books, a keyring torch, a thing for emptying the water out of the fish tank and a DVD from mum and dad.

This day is sooo much better than the rest of this week! It even snowed this morning!!!

I haven't posted on here for ages, so I feel like I should, but I'm not really sure what to say that isn't just moaning... Humm.

I had my annual leave; I went home to see my mum and brother. It was quite fun, except that I had to spend nearly two days on the train and only two full days at home. But I got to help mum and the other teachers/TAs decorate the really big school Christmas tree in the hall! And then go into the village for the Festive Fayre with mum. I met up with the Guides in the village hall and bought cakes from them, and we went in all the shops, bought some stilton and grape flavoured crisps and some mulled wine, and listened to the school choir sing in the garden centre. I also went shopping in town the next day for Christmas presents, but I only bought one in seven hours of shopping. I'm still not sure what to get some people, so I'm afraid presents may be late this year :-S

When I got back up here we decorated the house for Christmas. It's looking quite good. We have fairy lights around the windows and paper chains and tinsel in the living room and stairs. Nicky is going to get the tree tomorrow, so we'll do that tomorrow night. I've already got my mini tree up in my room, with all the usual old decorations. I got new lights though, because I don't really like the pink plastic hearts I've had for the past few years. I got multi-coloured LEDs instead, but sadly the yellow and the blue aren't very bright.

My laptop got a virus on it :-( It would turn on, but then it kept freezing before I could do anything. So I had no choice but to take it up to the uni to get it fixed, but they're supposed to be charging me £47 an hour! I've had an e-mail back saying it's ready for me to pick up now, but I really hope it isn't going to cost too much.

Ooh and I finally gave in and bought a new Winter duvet and an electric heater for the bedroom, it's great! I love that I can actually be warm some of the time while I'm in the house now.
